Notes:  This is a delight, marred only by the fact that, to any reader of detective fiction, the solution to the enigma that lies at the heart of the story is obvious from page two. I’ve read several of the Whitman children’s TV tie-in books over the years, and most of them bear little resemblance to their video counterparts. This is a wonderful exception. The author captures the personalities of Ironside and his team, and the tone of their adventures, to perfection, making this a far more satisfying read than the adult novel by Jim Thompson. It’s easy to understand why this was packaged as an adult novel in Germany. The presentation of the story is also outstanding; the illustrations by Larry Frederick are stylish and beautifully executed.
